Lurking in the Shadows

Chapters 1-15

Chapter 1:
Quote:
“We were strangers
Starting out on a journey
Never dreaming what
We’d have to go through

Now here we are
And I’m suddenly standing
At the beginning with you”
This is the song, "At The Beginning" by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx, from the movie, "Anastasia."

Chapter 4:
Quote:
“And we can build this dream together
Standing strong forever
Nothing's gonna stop us now...”
This is the song, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by '80's band Starship

Chapter 5:
Quote:
Mine is the Chevrolet Caprice. The rest of these officers use Plymouth Gran Furys.
The Chevrolet Caprice was a full-size car popular with police forces until it was discontinued in 1996. The Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Gran Fury was another such sedan that was discontinued in 1989.
Quote:
“Now with you, out of the blue
Love appeared before my eyes with you
A dream come true
I never thought I'd realize what love was
what love was, what love was...”
This is the song, "Out of the Blue" by '80's teen star Debbie Gibson

Chapter 6:
Quote:
And I.....remember how you loved me
Time was all we had until the day we said goodbye
And I...remember every moment
Of those endless summer nights...
This is the song, "Endless Summer Nights" by Richard Marx
Quote:
In U.S. college football news, the twelfth-ranked Tigers completely dominated the thirteenth-ranked Yellow Jackets, 31-7 last Saturday…
In reference to a college football game played by Lisa's alma mater

Chapter 7:
Quote:
your bonds with your Pokemon must be as hard as a rock. Wait, does that sound too much like a Chevy Truck commercial?
"Like A Rock" used to be Chevy's tagline for their trucks
Quote:
In college football news, the tenth ranked Tigers lost their Thursday night game 24-7 as Tech simply ran over them…
Yup, another college football game with Lisa's alma mater.

Chapter 8:
Quote:
If someone has caused you injury, call me right now! I’ll crush every penny out of them that I possibly can! I’m Larry “The Knockout” Jones! In court, I’m not just your lawyer. I’m the nastiest SOB around, and you’ll want a nasty SOB on your side for this battle! So call me right now at…
Spoof of former Rochester, NY lawyer, Jim "The Hammer" Shapiro, known for his outlandish ads.
Quote:
“Trade in whatever piece of junk you drive for an $8000 minimum trade! Here’s Liz from West Bluefield!”

“I couldn’t believe it! West Town Kia paid me $8000 for my old ’74 Pinto that went toward a brand new Sedona! Thanks, West Town Kia…”
Dealers of Korean carmaker Kia have some of the most obnoxious ads, with loud screaming and outlandish deals.

Chapter 9:
Quote:
I suggest you watch TV this weekend. You'll be seeing your mug on ‘Fourtix Region's Most Wanted’, courtesy of yours truly.
Based on American TV show, "America's Most Wanted" where viewers call in tips to help capture profiled fugitives.

Chapter 10:
Quote:
Yep, I live in the commercial area of Anderson, South Carolina, just off the main strip on Clemson Boulevard. Our place there overlooks a Quality Inn, a Target, a Lowe's and an Applebee's.
All of these businesses are located near each other in the city of Anderson, South Carolina. Clemson Boulevard/US 76 is the main road heading into town from Interstate 85 at Exit 19A, and many businesses line this strip.
Quote:
Lisa found a six story AmeriSuites hotel
Soon the AmeriSuites chain will be obsolete. Hyatt purchased the chain from Prime Hospitality and is in the process of renovating them and converting them to its own brand. I am not happy with this decision, and so this AmeriSuites will remain here as a memorial of sorts.

Chapter 11:
Quote:
He's now serving 65-90 years for armed robbery and extortion in lockup in Atlanta
The United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia is a maximum-security facility for male inmates.

Chapter 12:
Quote:
reminiscent of Interstate 85 near Lisa’s hometown.
I-85 runs from its I-95 junction in Petersburg, VA to its I-65 junction in Montgomery, AL. Other major cities traversed include Atlanta, GA; Anderson, SC (Lisa's hometown); Greenville, SC; Spartanburg; SC; Charlotte, NC; Greensboro; NC; and Durham, NC.

Quote:
“Now I've got you in my sights with these
Hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise...”
This is the song, "Hungry Eyes", from the '80's movie "Dirty Dancing." Sung by Eric Carmen.

Quote:
“Howard Johnson.”

Lisa ran right to the triangular, orange-roofed structure that served as the hotel’s lobby. After checking in, she proceeded to the two-story structure. She noted that it was an older hotel with a balcony outside her second floor room. A set of horizontal wood beams spanned the width of the ceiling. A panel by the bed contained four light switches. Lisa discovered she could control all the lights in the room from this panel. There were two sinks, one in the bathroom and one located just outside of it.
This is a typical '60's era Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge- a two-story structure with first floor patios and second floor balconies. Rooms featured central light control panels, two sinks, and other unique features. The lobby was contained in an "A-frame" gatehouse with a bright orange roof. These type of motels are quickly disappearing.

Chapter 13:
Quote:
a large vintage Chrysler Newport police car rolled past
Chrysler canceled the full size Newport (and similar Dodge St. Regis) after the 1981 model year, and moved the New Yorker onto a smaller platform (that would later become the Fifth Avenue) in 1982.

Quote:
The jacket was purple with a small orange paw logo embroidered on the right side.
Yet another clue as to where Lisa went to college.

Chapter 14:
Quote:
the NASCAR race cars sponsored by those three businesses- the Target #41, Lowe's #48, and CarQuest #5
The #48 Lowe's Chevy is driven by Jimmie Johnson, the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion. The #41 Target Dodge is driven by Reed Sorenson, who just finished up his rookie year. The #5 (sponsored by CarQuest for only a few races; usually sponored by Kellogg's) is driven by Kyle Busch.

Quote:
Lisa also identified the parked car as an ultra rare 1975 Mercury Grand Monarch Ghia.
The Grand Monarch Ghia was a limited production luxury edition of the Ford Granada/Mercury Monarch built only in 1975 and 1976. It was the precursor to the 1977-1980 Lincoln Versailles.

Chapter 15:
Quote:
“Whoa-oh, we're halfway there...Whoa-Oh! Livin' on a prayer!”

“Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, Domo...Domo...Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto...”

“We come together cause opposites attract and you know...”

“How can I fall, how can I fall, when you just won't give me reasons, just won't give me reasons at all...”

“Just a foolish beat..of my hear… hearrrrrrt... I could never love again, the way I loved you...”

Then it was Lisa's turn to sing at the top of her lungs. She took the stage, ready to sing her heart out.

“And we can build this dream together, standing strong forever, nothing's gonna stop us now...”
In order these songs are:
Bon Jovi- Livin' on A Prayer
Styx- Mr. Roboto
Paula Abdul- Opposites Attract (this might have been borderline '89/'90)
Breathe- How Can I Fall?
Debbie Gibson- Foolish Beat
Starship- Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (also featured in chapter 4)

Chapters 16-30

Chapter 16
Quote:
Quality Inn was the original chain in the Choice Hotels system. It was created in 1939 under what name?

Oh, and the answer’s ‘Quality Courts United’. Now things will start to heat up!

My turn to question you. In the late eighties, Choice bought three economy chains. Two of them, Econo Lodge and Rodeway, still survive today. The third was
eventually merged with Rodeway. What is the name of that now-defunct chain?

It’s Friendship Inn. Duh. Now, in 1981, Quality Inn created Comfort Inns and an upscale chain that was later replaced by Clarion. What was its name?

Quality Royale. They had a cool-looking gold and brown logo, too. Okay, the first two locations of Choice's new Cambria Suites chain were opened in what two markets?

Boise, Idaho and Savannah, Georgia. Now, my next question. What year did Quality Inns implement the franchising of their locations?

Oh, and the answer is 1972. My next question. The 2004 Sleep Inn of the Year is located in North Charleston, South Carolina. What management company operates it? Here’s a hint. The company is based in Columbia and also owns the Sleep Inn in Mount Pleasant.

“Well, the answer is Gateway Hospitality.
Most of this information can be found on the Choice Hotels website, though some of it comes from much more obscure sources. Since writing this, development of the Savannah Cambria Suites location has seemingly been dropped. I am not sure of its current status.

Chapter 18:
Quote:
“Oh, dear, no! We’ve been asked to supervise things at our new Rock Hill branch on Dave Lyle Boulevard.”
Rock Hill, South Carolina is located about 10-15 minutes south of Charlotte, NC on I-77. Dave Lyle Blvd. is one of the city's main thoroughfares (I-77 exit 79)

Quote:
“Anyway, we’ll be staying at a Fort Mill hotel while we look for a house nearby. We’re looking into this nice lakefront community not far from Rock Hill.”

“You mean Tega Cay, Mom?”
Quote:
we’ll be at the Comfort Inn on Avenue of the Carolinas
Fort Mill is situated between Rock Hill and Charlotte, and includes part of the Carowinds theme park. Avenue of the Carolinas is the road leading into the park. Tega Cay is a few miles west of Fort Mill, and is an upscale community on the shores of Lake Wylie.

Quote:
“Stop the truck now!”

“I got your game, sucka!” Maxie retorted.
Quote:
“Ya wanna play, huh? I’ll play! Ya wanna play? Let’s play!”
The entire mountain SUV battle was based on a scene from the trucking movie, "Black Dog" and these two quotes were adapted from that movie.

Quote:
Smiling, Maxie said, “Ain’t nothing better than the 460 engine.”
Actually I am unsure if you could order the 1990 Bronco with the 460 cubic inch V-8, but considering the Bronco was based on the F-Series, it would not be difficult to have that engine put in after the fact.

Quote:
10-50 traffic accident involving one of our suspect vehicles.
In the United States, 10-50 is police code for a traffic accident.

Quote:
and attempted a police-style PIT Maneuver
The PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) is a method police use to stop fleeing vehicles. The officer will tap the rear fender of the fleeing vehicle with the corner of their car's bumper, causing the suspect to spin out while the officer maintains control of their car, so long as it is pulled off correctly.

Chapter 20:

Serebii member Dilasc provided some help with this chapter.

Quote:
So, when I tell you guys to ‘Charger that’ or ‘Pull a Diplomat’ or ‘Do a Dynasty five inches right’ it means the same as ‘Dodge that!’
The Dodge Charger was a muscle car during the 1960's and 1970's, and was recently revived as a large rear-wheel drive sports sedan.
The Dodge Diplomat (built '77-'89) was based on the Chrysler rear wheel drive "M" platform that also included the Plymouth Gran Fury ('82-'89), Chrysler Fifth Avenue ('82-'89), LeBaron ('77-'81), and New Yorker ('82-'83). The Dodge and Plymouth models were popular as police cars and the Fifth Avenue was by far the most luxurious.
The Dodge Dynasty was a front wheel drive midsize sedan built from 1988-1993. It was a twin to the Chrysler New Yorker from that time period. The '90-'93 Chrysler Fifth Avenue and Imperial were extended length versions of this chassis.

Chapter 21:
Quote:
“You guys were coordinators too? I remember those times, organizing delegations, attending conferences, visiting colleges all over the country, presenting residence life programs… good times, good times indeed.”
Quote:
“I… wait, are you some other kind of coordinator? Because I was thinking y’all were National Communications Coordinators like I was in college!”
Quote:
Anyway, the resident assistant in my residence hall suggested to me that I get involved with campus life through an organization called RHA. I did exactly that, and my first semester I was able to travel with them to a big conference in Florida. I enjoyed myself so much that the next semester I was elected as the National Communications Coordinator, who basically heads up all of the conference trips. I even had the opportunity to present a talk on some topics related to residence life.
In a university's residence life program, there is usually a student organization called Residence Hall Association (RHA), Resident Students' Association (RSA) or something similar. One executive board or officer position in the organization is the National Communications Coordinator (NCC), who is in charge of organizing groups of students to attend residence life conferences throughout the year. This individual serves as the liaison between the schools and the state, regional, and national residence life organizations (National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) and its regional and state divisions). The author served as the NCC in the fall of 2006 and has attended these conferences since February 2003.
Quote:
My name is Reed Turner, not to be confused with Clow Reed or Reed Sorenson or anyone else with the same name.
In the Cardcaptor Sakura series, Clow Reed is the famous magician who created the Clow Cards that Sakura is attempting to collect. Reed Sorenson is a NASCAR Nextel Cup driver. His car (#41 Target Dodge) made an appearance back in chapter 14.

Chapter 22:
Quote:
I see your attitude hasn’t changed. But, your impudence ends here! Prepare to die!”

Rolling her eyes, Lisa sighed and said, “Yeah, Lord Yuan called. He would like his lines back!”
Quote:
Now, Lisa, I shall expel you of your flaws!” boasted Naps.

“Geez, now you’re using Pronyma’s lines… All right, I’ll play your little game.”
These two lines were spoken by two of the antagonists from the RPG, Tales of Symphonia, before your party battles them. The first was spoken by Lord Yuan (of the Renegades) and Lady Pronyma (of the Desian Grand Cardinals). The first has been modified for number agreement (changed "attitudes haven't" to "attitude hasn't"), the second has, "Now, Lisa," added to it.

Quote:
Stupid girl! Chuck Norris ain’t got nothin’ on Magmar and its roundhouse kicks! Eat this!
Perhaps you've heard the Chuck Norris (of Walker Texas Ranger fame) jokes about how he and his roundhouse kicks are the two must uber pwnzoring things in teh universe...

Chapter 23:
Quote:
Let’s see, we have ‘Rain Man,’ ‘WaterWorld,’ ‘Titanic,’ ‘The Waterboy,’ ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ ‘Speed 2: Cruise Control,’ and… anybody notice a theme here?
Yeah, Archie has a thing for either water-themed movies, or movies with a water theme in their title.

Quote:
“Seeing that Geoff Bodine crash once is enough for me, thank you very much.”
In 2000, veteran NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine (1986 Daytona 500 winner) was involved in a horrific crash at Daytona during a truck race. He would recover and in fact participate on and off in races for several years afterward.

Quote:
Professor Blaine the Science King!
Based on the TV show, 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' who made learning science fun!

Chapter 25:

The character "Mimi" in this chapter was created by Serebii member Sweet Pinpuku for a now-defunct story and used with their permission.

Quote:

Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States and served from 1953-1961. He is known for creating the Interstate Highway System in 1956, which pwns all other highway systems, yo.
Quote:
“Girl, you left me with nothing,
Nothing but a photograph, whoaaa…

Angelia, got to make you turn around…”
Lyrics from "Angelia," by Richard Marx
Quote:
“I’ll never find another girl like you, for happy endings it takes two
We’re fire and ice, the dream won’t come true
Sara, Sara, storms are brewin’ in your eyes, oh, oh, ohhh…
Sara, Sara, no time is a good time for good-byes…”
Lyrics from "Sara," by Starship

Chapter 26:

The character "Mimi" in this chapter was created by Serebii member Sweet Pinpuku for a now-defunct story and used with their permission.

Quote:
“Deadly Cutlass? Cruiser, Ciera, or Supreme?”

“Arr, don’t insult us, ye scurvy dog! Oldsmobile be dead. We still be alive and kickin’! Send out yer Pokémon so I can make them walk the plank!”
The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Cruiser, and Cutlass Ciera were made by now-defunct General Motors division Oldsmobile. The Cutlass Supreme moniker was coined in 1982 when GM created the front-wheel-drive A-body Cutlass Ciera (and moved the Cutlass Cruiser Wagon to the Ciera platform.) The Ciera and Cruiser were discontinued in 1996 and all Cutlasses from '97 on dropped the "Supreme" name. Oldsmobile itself was phased out during the 2000's.

Quote:
“Once again, Shane Gregory Atkins is wanted for the armed robbery of the Citgo Quik Stop Mart on Gatehurst Drive in Northwood City. He is thirty-four years old, stands six feet tall, and weighs approximately 220 pounds. Now that he’s had his fifteen seconds of shame, let’s lock him up! If you know where this fugitive is tonight, contact your local law enforcement office or call our hotline at 1-888-5-WANTED. Next on ‘Fourtix Region’s Most Wanted,’ a violent gang war between the Thrash Brotherhood and Team Deadly Cutlass, caught on video! Perhaps you can identify some of the perpetrators in this incident.”
Based on American show, 'America's Most Wanted' which also has a "15 Seconds of Shame" segment profiling fugitives.

There is a chain of travel centers across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States called WILCO/HESS, with Hess brand gasoline and major fast-food outlets like Dairy Queen, Wendy's, and Subway.

Quote:
Lisa handled the check-in, presenting her Choice Privileges member card.
Choice Privileges is the frequent traveler program for Choice Hotels, which encompasses their Sleep, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites, and Suburban Lodge brands.

Quote:
The similarities between this hotel and one very close to their home in South Carolina were striking.
The hotel in question is the Quality Inn Anderson, located at 3509 Clemson Boulevard at West Beltline Boulevard.

Quote:

Chapter 34:
Quote:
Lisa had also finally taken the plunge, buying a TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator to replace “Lizzie,” her standard TI-89 that had been her partner since 1998
The TI-89 is a popular programmable graphing calculator manufactured by Texas Instruments that features a built-in computer algebra system that is capable of calculating derivatives and integrals in calculus. The Titanium version, introduced in 2004, introduces more memory, a USB port, and other upgrades.

Quote:
Now it’s time to show you what ‘Charlotte’s Web’ SHOULD have been about!
I know it takes place on a farm, and a pig and spider are involved, but that's it for my knowledge of this book.

Quote:
Which I-85 exit is closest to the Concord Mills Mall?
Concord Mills Mall is the third largest shopping mall in the United States, located northeast of Charlotte in the city of Concord.

Quote:
Also the closest exit to Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
The speedway is home to two NASCAR Nextel Cup events including the famous Coca-Cola 600.

Quote:
It’s the only four-level ‘stack’ interchange in the state of North Carolina
The "Stack" interchange features the two intersecting roads separated by a bridge, along with a series of ramps built on two different levels, hence the "four level" name (two roads and the two levels of ramps.) It is used for high-traffic interchanges between two limited-access freeways because of its higher capacity.

Quote:

Winthrop University is a small university predominantly focused on education programs. The campus is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Quote:
The answer is Harris-Teeter.
Harris Teeter is a chain of upscale grocery stores in the southeastern United States. The company has its roots in Charlotte and is still headquartered in the area, in nearby Matthews, North Carolina.

The SAT is another standardized test from ETS; this one is taken by high school students as part of the college admissions process.

Quote:
the Quality Inn Merry Acres got Inn of the Year honors again
This hotel, located in Albany, Georgia, was indeed named Quality Inn of the Year for 2007, the fifth time it has received this award.

Quote:
looks like I have 8,940 points on my account… I still need about three thousand more for a free night when I get back… since Anderson now requires twelve thousand points now
Lisa is referring to the Choice Privileges guest program, where guests earn points for airline miles, hotel stays, or other rewards. And indeed, the Anderson Quality Inn now requires 12000 points for a free night.

Chapter 35:

Originally included another author's character instead of Lorelei, but was edited since aforementioned author later plagiarized my story.
Quote:
A badly beat up AMC Gremlin, with its ancient hatchback body consisting of equal parts avocado green paint, brown rust patches, and gray primer
The AMC Gremlin was a subcompact hatchback made by the now-defunct American Motors Corporation from 1970 to 1978. It was created by shortening the wheelbase and removing the rear decklid from the existing AMC Hornet compact. The Gremlin has an unfavorable reputation today due to its odd styling.

Chapter 36:

Originally included another author's character instead of Lorelei, but was edited since aforementioned author later plagiarized my story.
Quote:
Lisa noted a sign reading, “This Property Owned and Managed by Desai Hospitality Group Under License Agreement with Pokémon Center Franchise Systems, Incorporated.”
This is similar to signs posted at the front desks of many hotels. Most of the major chain hotels are independently owned and operated under a franchise agreement with the chain, and actual standards vary. It is the same way with Pokemon Centers in my fic; hence why some are nice while others are dumps.

Chapter 37:

*I need to thank Haruka of Hoenn for suggestions on how to improve the "songfic" scene in the fic, as well as suggesting a song for Lisa to sing during her Karaoke session.

*Also, a very big thanks to katiekitten who helped immensely with BETAing the songfic segment- and put up with a really bad first version of it!

Quote:
“No way… only seventy dollars… for a Marriott?” Lindsay could hardly believe her ears. Lisa, however, did not seem so surprised.

“It’s the off-season; they don’t have nearly as many guests this time of year, so they’re willing to lower their prices to try to attract more business.”
In major beach resort areas, it is not unusual for resort hotels to drastically reduce their rates during winter off-seasons. Some travelers will plan their vacations during this time; despite colder temperatures, the hotels are cheaper and the beaches are less crowded.

Quote:

Housing for the event will be at local hotels, and attempts will be made so that the impact of the tournament on the local university will be minimized…”
Memorial Stadium, or "Death Valley" as it is sometimes called, is an 80,000+ seat stadium on the campus of Clemson University where the Tigers college football team plays. And if you haven't guessed it yet, Clemson is Lisa's alma mater.

Quote:
“When you feel the sunlight
Fade into the cold night
Don't know where to turn
I don't know where to turn
And all the dreams you're dreaming

Let me in your world
Baby, let me in your world
All you need is someone you can hold
Don't be sad, you're not alone”

“I will be here for you
Somewhere in the night
Somewhere in the night
I'll shine a light for you
Somewhere in the night
I'll be standing by
I will be here for you”
Song is "I Will Be Here For You" by Michael W. Smith.

The song that follows is "At the Beginning" by Richard Marx and Donna Lewis, from the "Anastasia" soundtrack.

Chapter 38:

Features the character Tony Parito from The Corei Quest (not to be confused with the Thrash Admin, Dr. Anthony "Tony" Simon Jackson).
Quote:
Dodge Aspen Sedan those Water Guns and zap ‘em before they dive again!”
Not to be confused with the current Chrysler Aspen (based on the Dodge Durango SUV), the Dodge Aspen and its twin, the Plymouth Volare, were compacts (RWD "F-Body") manufactured from 1976 to 1980. However, its basic chassis design lasted until 1989 as the Chrysler Fifth Avenue, Dodge Diplomat, and Plymouth Gran Fury (the "M-bodies"), the latter two popular with police departments. It was also the basis for the 1980-'83 ("J-body") coupes, the Chrysler Cordoba, Dodge Mirada, and Imperial. Early Aspens/Volares were known for premature rusting, and the reputation of these models still suffers to this day because of the rampant rusting on the early models.

Behind Maxie, a group of Team Magma grunts, all wearing red hoods, began singing, “Water sucks! It really, really sucks! Water sucks!”
Maxie here is referencing the Adam Sandler movie, "The Waterboy," with his pro-Gatorade, anti-water campaign.

However, I've recently learned that another lawyer, Lowell "The Hammer" Stanley, runs a similar ad campaign in the Norfolk/Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Which of these two was the first to advertise in this manner is unknown.

Po-Ke Cen-ter
It's fun to heal at the Po-Ke Cen-ter
It's fun to heal at the Po-Ke-Cen-ter…
This is a parody of the Village People song, "Y.M.C.A." It also pokes fun at the identical Nurse Joys in the anime (making them into robots).

Quote:
“Next on ‘Fourtix Region’s Most Wanted’, we will be profiling the unnamed Sphinx City ‘Hoodie Bandit’, wanted for at least three bank robberies in the city.”
Once again, a version of the FOX show, "America's Most Wanted." The "Hoodie Bandit" is similar to the nicknames that authorities give to unknown bank robbers with a distinguishing trait. Recent examples include the "Mad Hatter" (wore a different hat to each of his robberies) and the "Ponytail Bandit," a female robber who wore a baseball cap with a ponytail sticking out of the back.

Quote:
The position was called the ‘National Communications Coordinator’ who contacts other college residence life organizations and heads up residence life conferences.
RHA (also known as RSA) is a student organization on most college campuses that specifically serves students who live on campus, serving as a link between them and housing administration. The group plans campus-wide events, relays housing issues to administration, and communicates with sister organizations at other schools. The National Communications Coordinator (NCC) is the member in charge of this last objective. They are the ones who assume the role of leader at residence life conferences, where schools send representatives to learn what their fellow RHA's are doing. The NCC is in charge of organizing groups to attend these conferences and represents the school in business meetings.

Pal, we’ll not only play your game, but we’ll find its subgame perfect Nash equilibrium as well!
In game theory, Nash Equilibrium is achieved when both players are making their best possible decisions; i.e., they cannot change their strategy and improve their position/payoff by doing so. Subgame perfect Nash Equilibrium is a strategy for a multi-step dynamic game where every subgame of the larger game is also a Nash equilibrium using that particular strategy.

The Mercury Marquis name came into being in 1975 as the highest trim level for Mercury's full-size Marquis. It was restyled and downsized for 1979. In 1983, the Grand Marquis became a separate model, differentiating itself from the Marquis, which was moved on to the smaller Fairmont/Zephyr platform for that year. The Grand Marquis remained the full-size model. 1992 brought another redesign and more aerodynamic lines to the car, with a mild freshening in 1998. The Colony Park was the station wagon variant (most with the woodtone side paneling) and was dropped after 1991 when the aerodynamic models were introduced. Grand Marquis production continues to this day.

And to think, I never would have if the stupid Fourtix federal police would have given the Impala police car a chance!
Chevrolet dropped the Caprice after 1996, ending its run of V-8 powered rear-drive police cars and giving that market share to Ford's Crown Victoria. In recent years Chevrolet has offered a police package for its mid-size Impala, which is seeing some success as an alternative to Ford's offering. However, some departments criticize the Impala for being a front-drive car with V-6 power and continue to use the Crown Victoria (or in some cases, refurbished Caprices).
